On January 8 local time, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit of Dominica, accompanied by members of the Cabinet and Parliament, visited the construction site of the Dominica International Airport project undertaken by China Railway No.5 Engineering Group, to conduct an on-site inspection of the project’s progress.
Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit and his delegation inspected key construction areas including the tunnel works, Culvert No.1, and the terminal area, gaining a detailed understanding of the airport’s overall layout and construction progress. He noted that the Dominica International Airport project faces complex terrain conditions and significant challenges in construction organization, yet the project team has adopted a scientific and well-coordinated approach, ensuring steady and orderly advancement of all works, with phased achievements gradually taking shape.
He emphasized that the airport project is not only a major infrastructure undertaking, but also an important guarantee for promoting Dominica’s future socio-economic growth, industrial upgrading, and improvement of people’s livelihoods. Once completed and operational, the airport will significantly enhance Dominica’s external connectivity and international profile, strongly driving the development of tourism, agriculture, logistics, and related service industries, expanding employment opportunities, and strengthening the resilience and sustainability of economic development.
At present, construction of the Dominica International Airport project is progressing steadily as planned: foundation works for the runway have been largely completed, with runway pavement construction set to commence shortly; tunnel works are being accelerated, and buildings including the terminal, FBO, fire station, cargo facilities, and control tower have all entered the structural construction stage. The overall project target is completion and handover in the fourth quarter of 2027.
